Singapore not only has a beautiful environment, but also is very advanced in all aspects of development. For example, Mapletree Business City, a smart park in Singapore, the second phase is located in the west of Singapore Island. It is an industrial area dominated by ports and warehouses. In order to form an ecological corridor with the nearby Kent Ridge Park, the designer created a large "forest ecosystem" on the roof of the parking lot building as a welcome site and the intersection of Phase 1 and Phase 2. The average soil depth of these cascading roof terraces is 1.8 meters to ensure the later growth of the forest, and the site of 70% is covered with green plants.

With the forest ecosystem, it must be managed effectively in order to play its role. A series of hillocks in the system not only provide protection from heavy rain, but also transform the relatively flat ground into a dynamic space for a variety of activities. The shape and orientation of the hill follow the local wind direction and the flow of people between Phase 1 and Phase 2 buildings. The choice of tree species is the result of species identification and research carried out at Kent Ridge Park, ensuring plant survival. Trees of different sizes and stages of growth are arranged in a more random pattern, resulting in a true forest form. The lower part of the forest is mixed with native dwarf trees and a few taller shrubs to create a leafy landscape. A variety of flowers and trees, fruit trees and shrubs enhance the attributes of the forest as a habitat for butterflies, dragonflies, birds and other wild animals, maximizing the maintenance of biodiversity.

The role of the hills is not limited to this. In terms of rainwater management, there is an ecological wetland at the foot of each hill, which can effectively adjust the form of the water system and at the same time allow the water to be slowly filtered by the sand layer. The pre-filtered stormwater is eventually collected at the lowest point, where it flows to a storage tank and is used for irrigation. The size of the cistern can accommodate 7 days of irrigation water. With a rainwater monitoring system, the cistern can automatically store water in rainy days and is sufficient to maintain the relative humidity on Singapore Island.

Of course, the green area of the forest ecosystem in the smart park covers all the buildings as much as possible. The plants extend all the way to the building's surface and receive sunlight at a 45-degree angle. Some typical shade-tolerant plants common in the forest are selected and planted in this area to ensure the long-term growth of the forest. In addition, there are many entertainment and multi-functional sports facilities in the site, such as football field, basketball court, outdoor fitness station and jogging track. Together, they provide a healthy ecological environment for various aquatic plants and fish, and make Mapletree Commercial City Phase II a unique place for living, office and entertainment. The landscape design was inspired by the adjoining nature reserve to create an "urban wilderness" that blends comfortable collaborative working environment with tropical leisure environment, and maximizes the ecological status of the area.
