After a Reveal report suggested Tesla Underreporting injuries at Tesla's Fremont factory responded to a blog post calling the report "completely false" and classifying it all as a "calculated disinformation campaign."

Now, California's Department of Occupational Safety and Health (aka Cal/OSHA) is looking into things at the plant.

As first Bloomberg pointed out, the agency won't elaborate on why it's looking at Tesla -- but when it came to commenting, they first mentioned the aforementioned report.

Here's a statement Cal/OSHA spokeswoman Erika Monterroza sent us:

Cal/OSHA takes serious reporting of workplace hazards and allegations of recordable work-related injuries and illnesses reported by employers. Cal/OSHA currently has open inspections at Tesla. Although we do not disclose details of public inspections, Cal/OSHA inspections typically include a review of the employer's Log 300 as well as a review to ensure serious injuries are reported directly to Cal/OSHA within the eight hours required by law. Cal/OSHA regulations define a serious injury or illness as a situation that requires an employee to be hospitalized for more than 24 hours for medical observation or where a body part is missing or permanently disfigured.

The "Log 300" referred to here is part of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, which requires employers with ten or more full-time employees to report serious workplace-related injuries or illnesses and to retain said records for five years.

In a statement to Jalopnik about the investigation, Tesla noted that "Cal-OSHA is asked to investigate any claims, regardless of whether they have merit or are baseless (as we believe them)," but they will offer their "full cooperation."

We've reached out to Tesla for additional comment, but the company did not respond at the time of publication. We'll update this post if we reply.
