Taiwanese computer giant Asus will roll out AI servers powered by Nvidia hardware that can be installed on-prem, offering a new layer of intelligence and security, in hopes of attracting more customers.

The release comes at a time when more companies are starting to express concerns about certain issues. cloud hosting AI workloads can expose sensitive data, putting them at risk.

The new Asus Afs devices will use the company's own Formosa Plastics Foundation model, which has been trained in-house by its artificial intelligence arm, TWS, to understand and generate text with traditional Chinese semantics.

Peter Wu, president of ASUS Cloud and TWS, explained in an interview with Bloomberg that the company aims to produce the AFS at around $6,000 per month, but higher-spec versions are expected to cost around $10,000 per month.

Under the hood, Nvidia's A100 chip takes center stage. Designed with data centers and AI at their core, they nearly triple performance (via Nvidia ) compared to 2019's V100 chip, which succeeds the A100 while balancing energy efficiency.

Taiwanese telcos are expected to be the first users of AFS ahead of its global launch later this year.

TWS promises to be "reliable, energy-efficient, and easy to migrate" (via ASUS ), while its use in the AFS device is set to make generating AI more secure and private, as it is disconnected from the cloud.

With the promise of more closed circuits, healthcare and banking customers may be able to trust these types of systems more, allowing them to take advantage of time-saving productivity gains such as artificial intelligence without worrying about digital data.
