Google Workspace has already teased some of its upcoming generative AI tools and showcased others at its annual I/O conference earlier this month, revealing that it's busy adding more to some of its most popular s free office software application.

The general perception of remote work remains unclear, but with its latest AI improvements in Meet, Google clearly thinks video conferencing is here to stay.

Google Meetings users will soon be able to use generative AI to automatically create meeting notes and summaries, and highlight action points that can be integrated directly into tasks.

Google Workspace gets another AI boost

While generative AI has been gaining traction in recent months, less sophisticated but equally useful capabilities continue to roll out across the web.

Google Meet will now be able to automatically rearrange video tiles using headlining technology for a more personally tailored view. This appears to include cropping around the speakers to remove unnecessary background, taking into account both solo and group speakers, all in an effort to fit more meaningful content on screen.

With collaboration in mind, Google is also generating background music and images for slideshows to help make meetings more engaging, and recently introduced a multi-presenter mode for slideshows in Google Meet.

Outside of Meet, Google is continuing to explore AI-generated possibilities, including a thread rollup assistant in gmail and a yet-to-be-announced "Organize Inbox" tool.

There are more text writing aids in Google Docs, soon to be published to mobile apps and web experiences, and the opportunity to generate audio tracks for presentations in Google Sheets.

As the world continues to master artificial intelligence, productivity tools from the likes of Google and Microsoft are expected to make repetitive, mindless tasks much more productive.
