Whatever your opinion of HTC, at least the company has some intriguing opportunities. A few weeks ago, newly appointed CEO Yves Maitre admitted at the Disrupt conference that the once powerful smartphone giant had lost its direction in the past time. But if nothing else, Project Exodus has revealed the tip of the iceberg of future smartphones.

Launching the Exodus 1s at Berlin's Lightning conference this weekend, HTC made the project's sustainability clear to the outside world. This new device successfully lowers the cost threshold to 219 euros (approximately $244). All in all, it's a good price for businesses looking to get into this technology. And obviously, it can be used in all equivalent digital currencies.

However its performance figures may disappoint. The device is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor and Android 8.1 version of the operating system; it is also equipped with a 5.7-inch HD+ screen, plus 4GB of running memory and 64GB of storage space; there is also a micro USB port and a headphone jack. To be honest, this is a very low-end device.

The biggest difference it has is that it supports access to hardware wallets and Bitcoin nodes. HTC's Phil Chen said in a related press release: "We have previously been able to enable users to have their own keys, and now we will go a step further to allow users to run their own complete Bitcoin nodes," while also mentioning, " We are providing a tool that gives users access to universal basic financing, which is like carrying a Swiss bank with them."

Maitre revealed in the past few weeks that he still believes mainstream adoption of blockchain on these devices is still two to three years away. What 1s provides, however, is an inexpensive way to get a sense of what today's technology can offer. From now on, interested groups or individuals in Europe, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates can order online.
