Dell and Nvidia announced that they are collaborating to help provide artificial intelligence hardware solutions to enterprises.

The two tech giants are merging their areas of expertise into a single software package, allowing businesses to benefit from the power of generative AI – including features like the popular Llm AI writer ChatGPT-Premise.

Dubbed Project Helix, the initiative will also provide proven blueprints and reference deployments to help enterprises launch AI workloads.

spiral plan

Looking at the hardware, Dell will be providing its power supplies, powering servers like the XE9680 and R760a, and Nvidia will be providing its new H100tensor core GPU, which succeeds the A100 used to power ChatGPT.

The hardware will be integrated with Dell PowerScale and Dell ECS, the company's storage solutions, and Nvidia will also provide its Nvidia AI enterprise software, as well as leveraging the nvidia NeMo framework for generative AI.

Kari Briski, vice president of software product management at Nvidia, told VentureBeat that with this on-premises solution for AI workloads, "We're bringing security and privacy to enterprise customers." Most commonly, enterprises will use hosted on-premises solutions. AI in the cloud, not on-premises.

She added: "Every business needs an LLM to conduct business, so it makes sense to do it locally."

While Briski acknowledges that generative AI may be overhyped in some cases, she hopes the new joint venture between the two companies will enable what she calls LLMops - enabling Llm to be used for practical enterprise purposes.

“What we haven’t been able to do is make these pre-trained base models available in a way that is easily replicable,” she said.

Project Helix’s blueprint will guide enterprises in tailoring their AI deployments to meet their specific needs. Varun Chhabra, senior vice president of product marketing at Dell, believes that getting the right mix of computer resources is crucial, and Project Helix provides the best way to achieve this goal.

In addition to on-premises deployments, Chhabra believes that with Dell hardware, enterprises can also benefit from AI deployed in the cloud.

Designs based on Project Helix will be available starting this July, through traditional channels and APEX flexible consumption options.
